Help support the education and training of the next generation of art conservators by sponsoring coursework and restoration fieldwork at the Istituto Veneto per i Beni Culturali (IVBC) Restoration School in Venice. More than a dozen students annually learn about all aspects of conservation, including techniques for treating canvas and panel paintings, stone and wooden artifacts, wall frescoes, and paper materials including archival documents and antique books. Students gain essential and valuable experience through fieldwork in Venice and its environs.
Save Venice’s past support of the IVBC resulted in the conservation of the beloved local landmark in Castello, the Sotoportego di Corte Nova; the 19th-century mosaic floor in the courtyard of the Galleria Franchetti in the Ca’ d’Oro; and most recently, stucco decorations and frescoes in the Conservatorio Benedetto Marcello in Palazzo Pisani, and the maintenance of the facade of the Scuola Dalmata in collaboration with UniSVe.
Continued support for the IVBC allows the school to offer enriching coursework and hands-on training for the next generation of conservators. The Venice-based fieldwork benefits the local community through the conservation of at-risk artistic treasures. Thanks to the IVBC’s collaboration with local institutions, students are also able to perform ongoing maintenance on varying types of artworks around the city. Course graduates receive career placement assistance and access to additional seminars and workshops to stay abreast of the latest developments in the conservation field.
The Istituto Veneto per i Beni Culturali is located in Venice with classrooms and laboratories in Casa Minich near Campo Santo Stefano.
