The Boston Chapter maintains a full schedule of events and activities each academic year. These include three lectures in the winter/spring on aspects of Venetian history, art, architecture, or music, as well as an Annual General Meeting (AGM) in the early autumn each year. The lectures and the annual meeting are preceded by an elegant reception; the AGM includes a business meeting and a short lecture on Venetian current events, restoration, or artistic heritage. The Boston Chapter also raises funds for art restoration through benefit dinners, parties, concerts, and trips. These events offer a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the company of others who love Venice and many aspects of Italian culture while at the same time earning substantial funds for specific restorations.
Past benefit events organized by the Boston Chapter include a costume ball and silent auction recreating the 1961 Festival del Cinema on the Lido (2006); a trip to Madrid to see the landmark Tintoretto exhibition at the Museo del Prado in the company of the curators on a day when the museum was closed to the public (2007); a black-tie dinner followed by an Edwardian brunch, both celebrating Italian artistic inspiration, and held inside the historic Ames-Webster Mansion in Back Bay (2010); and additional events noted on the left.
Local supporters of Save Venice take pride in a long-standing affection of Bostonians for Venice, dating to the mid-nineteenth century, a fondness reflected in the architectural styles of many buildings throughout the city and superlative museum collections. The Boston Executive Committee welcomes your inquiries, suggestions, and donations.
