The Save Venice archive contains documentation pertinent to the conservation of artworks that have been funded by Save Venice over the last 50 years. The earliest records date to 1968 and range from individual paintings and sculptures to significant sections about large-scale, multi-faceted conservation campaigns.

Our projects are not strictly limited to works of art and architecture but also include publications, inventories of historic archives, fellowships, research grants, exhibitions, and conferences that have been funded by Save Venice.

In 2017, Save Venice received a grant from the Gladys Krieble Delmas Foundation to process, catalogue, and reorganize this collection of conservation documentation, correspondence, estimates, bills, excerpts from Save Venice Board meeting minutes, restoration reports, newspaper clippings, historical and art historical information.

The finding aid of the Save Venice archive is available online, and all archival material is available for consultation, by qualified researchers, in the Venice office.

Conservation Articles

From 1987 to 2008, in conjunction with our Venice Galas, Save Venice published the journal series Studies in Venetian Art and Conservation, which included articles written by experts from Save Venice’s own Projects Committee, and historians and art historians from the local Venice branch of the Italian Ministry of Culture. This series was distributed to more than 500 museums, foundations, libraries, colleges, and universities throughout North America and Europe, and has become a resource for students and researchers. Over the years, Save Venice has also sponsored research projects, organized scholarly panels, and funded the publication of several books and academic articles focusing on conservation and art history. Digital excerpts are available for selected essays and articles.
