Visiting Venice

Paolo Veronese has never been seen to greater advantage than in the intimate church of San Sebastiano, which houses more important works by the great 16th-century painter in a single location than any other site in the world. Created between 1555 and 1570, Veronese’s creations include frescoes, wall paintings, altarpieces, canvases, and a painted wooden ceiling. Venice’s most important collection of Venetian paintings is found in the Gallerie dell’Accademia, which contains works spanning six centuries.
