Chiese di Venezia Program Fosters New Research and Ideas

Feb 07, 2019

Thanks to a generous grant from the Gladys Krieble Delmas Foundation, Save Venice was able to provide financial support for Chiese di Venezia: Nuove Prospettive di Ricerca, an interdisciplinary research program that fosters new research and ideas about Venetian churches through annual conferences and publications. Under the guidance of Professor Gianmario Guidarelli, and in collaboration with Università Ca’ Foscari Venezia, the program has flourished and cultivated new scholarship on the churches of San Bartolomeo (2011), the Scalzi (2012), San Lazzaro dei Mendicanti (2013), San Zaccaria (2014), San Pietro di Castello (2015), San Giacomo dall’Orio (2017), and most recently, the church of San Polo (2019).

Each international conference is free to attend and open to the public and features presentations ranging from religious life, to politics, music, art and architecture, and social and economic history. The proceedings are subsequently published in a series of richly illustrated monographs and are available for purchase through online retailers like Amazon. The next volume in the series, La Chiesa di San Giacomo dall’Orio, will be available in February 2019. The 2020 conference will focus on the church Santa Maria dei Servi.
