The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Boston chapter of Save Venice is open to all free of charge. The meeting will summarize our activities and restorations in the previous year, and present a slate of officers for 2023-24 to be voted upon by those present.
An optional ticketed reception ($50) will precede the business meeting and lecture. A short lecture by Marietta Cambareri will conclude the meeting:
“Strong women in Renaissance Italy at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston: A Preview”
Women in Renaissance Italy were artists, writers, teachers, healers, patrons,
collectors, rulers, businesswomen, as well as wives, mothers, daughters, and
widows. This MFA Boston exhibition (opening Sept. 9) includes sculptures,
paintings, books, textiles and shoes, ceramics, works on paper, all of which
demonstrate women’s creativity, power, and influence. Curator Marietta
Cambareri will offer a preview of the show, highlighting some of its
Venetian treasures, such as platform shoes (chopines), costume books, and
lace, as well as Titian’s Saint Catherine of Alexandria, an exemplar of
women’s devotional practice.
Marietta Cambareri is Senior Curator of European Sculpture and Jetskalina
H. Phillips Curator of Judaica, Art of Europe
