Though we could not come together as intended for the annual Un Ballo in Maschera in New York, we were heartened to have hundreds of viewers tune in for the live premiere of A Love Letter to Venice on October 29. Since then, Save Venice’s short documentary film has reached thousands of viewers around the world. During a time when so many of us are longing to be in Venice, we hope that the Love Letter provided a welcome escape, if only virtually, to our beloved city.
Watch, re-watch, or share today to see beautiful new footage of Save Venice restorations at the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta on the island of Torcello, the Italian Synagogue, Titian’s Assumption of the Virgin in the Frari, Carpaccio’s cycle of paintings in the Scuola Dalmata, and Immediate Response Fund efforts at the Ca’ d’Oro.
We gratefully thank Jeremy Irons, who graciously donated his supreme talent to transport us to Venice and share the mission of Save Venice. We thank our partners, colleagues, and friends in Venice, including the conservators, curators, scholars, and students who shared their personal stories. Most of all though, we thank the 2020 Ball patrons, restoration sponsors, advocates, and supporters who each contribute in a myriad of ways to the continued success of our preservation efforts in Venice.
