Earlier this month, more than 120 art enthusiasts from around the world gathered in Venice to celebrate an historic milestone: the 500th anniversary of the birth of Venetian artist, Jacopo Tintoretto (c. 1518/19–1594). Save Venice’s three-day Tintoretto 500 Celebration, themed A Celebration of Renaissance Art and Human Creativity, was just that, with daytime programming featuring the prolific artist’s most impressive artworks, including 18 paintings restored by Save Venice to mark this special occasion. Proceeds from the event supported our mission to conserve and protect artistic treasures such as these.

The October 5–7, 2018 benefit was a feast for the eyes and mind with private, curator-led visits of the exhibitions Il giovane Tintoretto at the Gallerie dell’Accademia, Tintoretto 1519–1594 at the Palazzo Ducale, and Art, Faith, and Medicine in Tintoretto’s Venice at the Scuola Grande di San Marco, and decadent dinners in the iconic Venetian settings Palazzo Contarini Polignac, the Napoleonic Ballroom of the Museo Correr, and the Sala Capitolare of the Scuola Grande di San Rocco. Other highlights included an interactive Renaissance Artist-at-Work workshop and an afternoon excursion to the lovely island of Mazzorbo for a wine-tasting and lagoon-to-table lunch at Venissa.
