A native Venetian, Prof. Rizzoli will speak on how Venice has responded to threats from the water that surrounds it, as well as on the science of water patterns in and around the Venetian lagoon and the growing challenges that the city faces from climate change and rising sea levels.
Presented by Professor Paola Rizzoli who has done extensive research on the origins and effects of ‘acqua alta’ and was a consultant for the city’s MOSE barriers from 1995 to 2014. Rizzoli advised Boston’s Museum of Science on its current exhibition Resilient Venice: Adapting to Climate Change, and was invited to present an exhibition in the Venice Room on “Resilience of Venice” at the 2021 Architecture Biennale in Venice last year.
